RoR and Ascot Racecourse Supports Partnership Reaches £100,000 Milestone
Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) has announced that its three-year partnership with Ascot Racecourse Supports has raised £100,000 to support the welfare and retraining of former racehorses.
The milestone was achieved following Royal Ascot 2026, where a fundraising initiative linked to jockey Ryan Moore generated a further £35,000 for the charity. Under the scheme, Ascot Racecourse Supports pledged to donate £5,000 for every Royal Ascot winner ridden by Moore. His seven victories during this year’s Royal Meeting added to funds raised in previous years, taking the partnership total to six figures.
Prior to Royal Ascot 2026, the initiative had already contributed £65,000 to RoR’s work supporting former racehorses.
The funding has helped the charity invest in projects designed to improve aftercare, owner education and the long-term tracking of retired racehorses. A portion of the 2024 funding supported the launch of RoR’s fundraising microsite in early 2025, which the charity says increased online individual giving by more than fivefold.
Money raised through the 2025 and 2026 campaigns will also contribute towards a wider digital redevelopment programme aimed at improving communications with owners, delivering educational resources and strengthening the traceability of former racehorses throughout their lives.
RoR Managing Director David Catlow said the partnership had delivered both practical support and greater awareness of the charity’s work.
“We are incredibly grateful to Ascot Racecourse Supports for their commitment over the past three years and to Ryan Moore, whose outstanding record at Royal Ascot has helped make this partnership such a remarkable success.
“Reaching £100,000 is a significant milestone for RoR. These funds have enabled us to invest in projects that strengthen our support for former racehorses and those responsible for their care after racing.”
Catlow added that the initiative had also helped highlight the successful second careers many retired racehorses go on to enjoy in a range of equestrian disciplines.
