Young Horse Classes a Resounding Success for the 2020 Sunshine Tour

The young horses continued to surpass expectation during this week’s 2020 Sunshine Tour, as the 5, 6 and 7-year-olds section A and B classes continued.
The 7yr old class was divided into two sections. Section A was won by the German rider from the Stephex stables, Kendra Claricia Brinkop, where her horse really lived up to its name, Number One. The pair have consistently jumped well, with good results during this year’s Tour. Kendra’s round was way out in the lead and she beat the Irish rider, Jessica Burke, by almost 3 seconds. There were 86 horses in section B of the class which proved just as competitive. This time, the Chilean rider Agustín Covarrubias with the KWPN Irish Coffee, were the section winners. Agustín beat the Spanish rider, Álvaro González de Zárate with horse, I Mose VLS, who are both regularly placed at the Tour.
It was a splendid second day of jumping for the young horses with €3,000 of prize money up for grabs.
Sunshine Tour XXVI
The Dutch rider Kim Emmen surpassed herself as she won Section A of the 6 yr olds with Lady los Ángeles, while she also took second place with Astrid’s Lad. Section B was won by the Portuguese rider, Joao Pedro Gomes with the French-bred Elegant Gypsy de Lure, beating both Jessica Hewitt and another British rider, Jake Saywell with his stallion, Ebanking.
In the 5yr olds the local Spanish rider from Cordoba, Ricardo del Campo with Chantal de Westfalia won the class for the second time since the beginning of the Tour. Section B was won by another Brit, this time Adam Taylor with the lovely and already legendary Kwikzilver W.

Thursday’s competition starts with the CSI4*, the first of three that will be held during this year’s Sunshine Tour XXVI. There will be three Big Tour classes that range in height from 1.35 to 1.50m.
