Ascot in the middle of June was a starting mark for a real return for racing in the UK. Up to 10,000 fans were able to attend the event each day, those numbers certainly look to start increasing as a day at the tracks may be back on the cards too.
As we head into the second half of the year, there are still some big events to come and an opportunity to earn a little extra, too. Those looking to bet on the big races have some of the biggest operators for wagering, but which are the biggest events still to come?
The King George Weekend – Coming late in July and returning to the Ascot with a rather attractive £1.25 million prize too, it’s the first of the big events to come. As one of the most prestigious flat races on the calendar, it always attracts some big racers, and with the door wide open to attract fans once again as this weekend Wembley will host 60,000 for football, it is largely expected that the King George Weekend will have the opportunity to be at full capacity and the first racing event in the UK since the pandemic began to be able to do so too.
Ebor Festival
Another big flat race on the UK race calendar and another great opportunity with a big prize pool for international racers too.
Whilst the 2020 event did go ahead as scheduled, much like many events during the summer last year it wasn’t able to allow fans to enter due to restrictions so that’ll certainly be a nice change this year, and with big names like Battaash putting up big performances the past two years at Nunthorpe, there’s certainly a lot to look forward to and some big betting opportunities to boot.
British Champions Day
Back at the Ascot towards the end of the year for October and for many a perfect way to round out a long flat season – with four group ones there’s a lot of competition at the event even with the lack of royals on this occasion.
This will be the first big race of the calendar for the back half of the year that could see a big difference for fans, though, as it has been suggested that more measures could be put in place in the winter months, so if you’ve had a good time taking a trip to the other big events of the year, this may be the first where it may not be possible – this could certainly all change on a whim, but for now it’s better to keep expectations measured as it could be a disappointing change later on.
