Two major road incidents involving horses have been reported in one week.
Friday 7th January: Emergency services rush to scene of road collision: Two horses die and riders ‘seriously injured’ after crash in Waltham Abbey
The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision, a woman said to be in her 30s, has been reported for careless driving and Essex Police have appealed to the public for witnesses following the incident. Officers are now investigating the cause of the incident and the Crown Prosecution Service will make the decision on whether the driver will be charged.
The BHS Director of Safety, Alan Hiscox met with a trainer based at the livery yard where the horseshorses were kept on 19th January and gave best wishes to the two riders for a full recovery.
The BHS safety team will offer its help to ensure that equine safety is considered as an urgent priority by the Road Safety Partnership in that area.
Monday 10th January: Man in serious condition after car flips in crash with stray horses
Emergency services were called to the M56 eastbound, at around 6.58am, on Monday, January 10, to reports of a crash involving stray horses where the drivers were not at fault.
One of the drivers involved in the crash was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Cheshire Police have confimed that the man’s condition is critical.
Two horses had strayed onto the eastbound carriage of the M56 close to junction 10 and were involved in a three vehcile collision which left one car flipped onto it’s roof. The sliproad was closed, causing long traffic delays whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.
