Longines Global Champions Tour Monaco Preview
From July the 1st to the 3rd, the Port Hercule will distinguish itself by welcoming the Longines Global Champions Tour of Monaco. A few weeks after the celebrated Formula 1 Grand Prix and the victory of Max Verstappen (NED), the Monoplaces and pit lanes will make way for horses and sand, to enjoy, again, a weekend of great sport.
The event features the world’s best show-jumping horses and riders over three days of top level sport. 2021 marks the 15th Jumping of Monte-Carlo which began in 2006 at the same time as the Longines Global Champions Tour. A historic leg, it represents more than a decade of top sport, victories, show and festivities thanks to the world’s best riders who want to return each year.
Unmissable, it offers one of the loveliest settings on the 2021 Longines Global Champions Tour and Global Champions League circuit. From Doha to Shanghai, passing through Paris, New-York or Mexico, the 7th leg of the 15 on the calendar, is stopping off here at the Port Hercules, alongside luxurious yachts, and overlooked by the Prince’s Palace.
A 5* rendezvous at the start of the summer, Monaco’s jumping is amongst those shows that have become mythical, where, like in F1, each rider dreams of their name being inscribed on the list of winners. Likewise Verstappen, the last show has also seen the Dutch flags flying to celebrate the victory of the rider who is currently ranked 16th in the world, Mikael van der Vleuten. At the commands of Beauville Z, he imposed himself in the 1m60 Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix du Prince de Monaco, the highlight of the weekend, and won his golden ticket to the LGCT Super Grand Prix at the GC Prague Playoffs. He succeeded Ireland’s Shane Breen (2018) and Italy’s Alberto Zorzi (2017).
In the GCL team classes, without a doubt the Monaco Aces, represented by stars of the discipline – Julien Epaillard (FRA), Laura Kraut (USA), Billy Twomey (IRL), Jos Verlooy (BEL), Jerome Guery (Bel) and the young Jeanne Sadran (FRA) – will be seeking their revenge over the Scandinavian Vikings who stole the limelight from them in 2019.
A high voltage encounter on Saturday, July the 3rd and to be followed by the famous Longines Global Champions Tour – Grand Prix du Prince de Monaco. National level and professional classes are also scheduled throughout the three days, with notably the Longines Pro-Am-Cup where big names team up with young talent in a friendly confrontation.
As for welcoming visitors, if the health situation hasn’t yet allowed confirmation as to spectators being allowed in the grandstands and to the show village, the organisers of the competition are already offering the possibility of reserving private lodges in the hospitality area.
