Hartpury DiSE students clinch victory at national championships

Two students studying a Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) at Hartpury College, are celebrating major successes following the later than scheduled 2020 NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships this August.

Florence Human rode her own horse Fulgencio to a spectacular victory in the Theraplate Ltd Medium Silver Championships at the Winter Dressage Championships hosted by Hartpury.

He’s the laziest horse you will ever meet,”

said Florence.

You’ll often find him at the back of his stable not doing anything, asleep! He’s very relaxed with life and it makes everything so easy.”

Sinead Cox stormed to victory aboard Valtaire after a jump-off in the National 1.15m Members Cup Championship at the NAF Five Star British Showjumping National Championships at Bolesworth.

Sinead said:

This is my first senior championship win and the horse jumped really well. The aim for the jump-off was to be able to make all the turns whilst leaving the fences up and I made sure that I rode carefully to the fences that were causing any problems.”

As DiSE students at Hartpury, Florence and Sinead have benefited from a blended learning programme run in partnership with British Dressage, British Eventing, and British Showjumping.

The programme at Hartpury offers a high-quality training environment with access to modern sporting facilities and the benefits of conditioning experts, physiotherapists, nutritionists and industry experts.

Florence added:

The diploma was a really good thing for me and I’ve met so many amazing people. There have been so many good opportunities within it and it’s been a really interesting two years.”

The DiSE programme at Hartpury, for which applications for this year close on 1 September, is an additional Level 3 qualification designed for athletes across a range of sports who have the potential to perform at the highest level.

The award is notionally a two-year programme for aspiring athletes going into their first year of further education, who are studying main academic qualifications at a school or other college.
