Annual Firework Display Cancelled Due to Horse Welfare
A pub based in Devon has announced the cancellation on the annual firework event due to the effects it was having on horses stabled 200m away, DevonLive reported.
The annual display held at the New Inn, Broadclyst which is hosted by local youth organisation, Pinhoe Scout Group, had caused considerable disruption, particularly during last year’s event. The owner of R & N Breaking and Schooling has published videos of the horses to visualise the impact the display had on their welfare during, and after the event.
Nathaniel Vanstone, from R&N Breaking and Schooling, has described how during last year’s event one of the horses needed veterinary attention after damaging itself and the stable environment within the immediate vicinity. The business owner also questioned the safety of the event should emergency services need access due to the congestion caused by parked cars.
The videos Nathaniel has published online demonstrate how upset and anxious the stabled horses became during the event.
The cancellation of the event will have a significant impact on fundraising efforts by the scout group who rely on contributions to carry out the running of the club.
