Round Three of $250,000 Gladiator Polo™ League Presented by the U.S. Polo Assn. at the Wellington “Coliseum” Thursday, February 23rd

Six of the top high-goal U.S. and international polo players will battle it out in round three of the $250,000 Gladiator Polo™ presented by the U.S. Polo Assn. on February 23, 2017. The event takes place at the “Coliseum,” otherwise known as the Equestrian Village of Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC). Thursday’s event will also be Wellington Regional Medical Center night, welcoming employees and their families from Wellington’s local hospital.

This week’s $33,500 match is sure to set a new standard of arena polo as the most competitive match to date. Two undefeated powerhouse teams will face off against each other in a matchup offering unparalleled excitement. Team Spiculus, who decimated their opponents 20-9 in round two last week, will go mano-a-mano with round one victor Team Spartacus.

The members of Spiculus, sponsored by Marshall & Sterling Insurance, Equisport Division, are Sebastian Merlos (rated at 9 goals), Pelon Escapite (7) and Juan Martin Zubia (7). Spartacus is sponsored by Carol A. Sollak, P.A. of Engel & Völkers. The Spartacus roster includes: Tommy Biddle (10), Felipe Viana (7) and Jason Crowder (7).

“Every round of Gladiator Polo builds on the excitement of the last game,” said Mark Bellissimo, Managing Partner of International Equestrian Group (IEG), who organized and hosted the series, which continues through the winter equestrian season. “Gladiator Polo has caught on like wildfire as the newest extreme sport. Because it is played in an arena, spectators sit just feet away and feel like they can reach out and touch the action.”

For those who can’t witness the game in person, the up-close-and-personal nature of Gladiator Polo makes it a spectator sport ideally suited for television viewers. The NBC Sports Network will be at the February 23rd event to film the competition, which will air February 28rd following the hockey game.

Spectators enjoy the gladiator ambiance of the evening, which offers an optional authentic Argentine asado. Roman-attired gladiators walk around the venue, greeting people and offering photo opportunities. A special halftime five-minute exhibition chukker will feature children of the world’s top polo stars. It will begin promptly following the third chukker to showcase young polo talent and draw attention to the future rising stars of the sport.
