Train towards a UKCC Qualification with The Pony Club

Pony Club offer UKCC Qualification Training

If you’re an equestrian coach, or aspire to teach riding, and you’re looking for training towards a qualification which is nationally recognised as a stamp of quality, look no further than UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) courses with The Pony Club.

UKCC Generic Equestrian qualification courses are held throughout the year and are open to everyone; you don’t have to be involved with a Pony Club Branch or Centre to book a space.

Training is offered at three levels, so suitable whether you’re just starting out as a coach or already have some experience under your belt.

The three levels are:

Level 1: For those who want to assist more qualified coaches; delivering aspects of coaching sessions, normally under direct supervision.

Level 2: For those who prepare for, deliver and review coaching sessions. The technical equestrian knowledge required is around Pony Club B Test level (BHS PTT equivalent), and you will be able to plan a short series of linked lessons.  Candidates for Level Two courses must be able to demonstrate previous coaching experience.

Level 3: For those learning to plan, implement, analyse and revise annual coaching programmes. Technical knowledge is needed at around Pony Club A Test level (BHS ITT level equivalent). You could also ‘mentor’ Level Two coaches who needed support.

UKCC coaches learn effective, up to date ‘athlete-centred’ skills and have a clear pathway of opportunities for personal and career development.

Jackie Minihane, Training Officer for The Pony Club, said: “The UKCC has created a nationally recognised framework of qualified coaches who not only learn the technical aspects of teaching, but can communicate effectively and adapt their coaching styles to suit each individual rider. We’re delighted to be able to offer UKCC training, and in doing so continue to help raise the profile of equestrian coaching by establishing best practise coaching standards.”

UKCC Qualification Equestrian Coach Pippa Ruffold attended a Level Two course. She said: “I decided to do the Level Two Coaching Certificate to brush up on my skills so that I could one day teach my daughter. The course proved to be more than my expectations. It was far more comprehensive and included bucket loads of technical and practical information. The course is thoroughly enjoyable, with excellent support from trainers and fellow candidates.” Pippa continued to say that the course has enabled her to pursue a complete change in her career direction, and she would ‘highly recommend’ the UKCC programme for anyone who loves working with horses.
