Plumpton Racecourse Welcomes a New CEO
Plumpton Racecourse kicked off their season with Family Day on 24th September, it was the first raceday for the new CEO of the racecourse, Dan Thompson, who was still in his first week in post. Having previously been General Manager of Exeter Racecourse, Dan has relocated to head the team at the independent jump course in Sussex.
Commenting on his first raceday, Dan said, “It’s great to finally be on course and get going. It’s been a fantastic first day with some great racing, a really good crowd and what I enjoyed most was the fantastic atmosphere. I can’t wait to get going for the rest of the season.”
Plumpton Racecourse to sponsor Cheltenham Bonus Series:
Plumpton Racecourse will continue the popular £60,000 Cheltenham Bonus for the 2017-18 season and are sponsoring the series themselves. The qualifying races will be held at Plumpton on 20th November, 4th December, 18th December, 7th January and 12th February.
The Plumpton Racecourse Cheltenham Bonus Series offers the connections of a horse that wins one of five nominated Novices Chases at Plumpton the opportunity to scoop the valuable £60,000 cash bonus, if it goes on to win any steeple chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March. It was last won by Voy Por Ustedes who won at Plumpton before going onto triumph in the Arkle Chase.
If won, the £60,000 prize is divided with £50,000 to the winning owner, £5,000 to the winning trainer and £5,000 shared by the stable employees in the winning trainer’s yard. If there is more than one winner the bonus is shared.
The bonus scheme helps Plumpton attract genuine Festival contenders, and provides Plumpton racegoers with a great opportunity to see racing’s future stars in action, and a fabulous cash bonus for owners and trainers on top of all the other benefits of winning at Jump Racing’s ultimate Festival.
It also rewards the dedication and hard work of the stable staff of the winning trainer, who spend many hours and long days every week behind the scenes, tirelessly tending to the horses in their care.
A healthier pot of prize money:
From the 1st January 2018 onwards, The Directors of Plumpton Racecourse have ensured that no race will run with less than £6,000 in prize money (excluding bumpers). Racedays will also include a feature race each day, having a minimum of £10,000 in the prize fund. Their biggest races such as The Sussex National in January and The Sussex Champion Hurdle at Easter will, as in previous years, exceed £30,000 and there are plenty of plans afoot to improve this further.
