Olympic Equestrian Team Announced for Rio 2016

The Rio 2016 Olympic Equestrian Team was announced today, and there’s quite a line up in all disciplines to support Great Britain’s campaign! 12 athletes will compete across three disciplines, Showjumping, Dressage and Eventing at the Rio Olympic Games in August, 2016.

The British Showjumping team includes favourite John Whitaker (riding Ornellaia), Nick Skelton (riding Big Star), Michael Whitaker (riding Cassionato) and Ben Maher (riding Tic Tac). Jessica Mendoza travels as reserve with Spirit T.

British Dressage riders Charlotte Dujardin (riding Valegro) and Carl Hester (riding Nip Tuck) will join Spencer Wilton (riding Super Nova II) and Fiona Bigwood (riding Atterupgaards Orthilia). Travelling reserve is another British favourite, Lara Griffith (riding Rubin Al Asad)

The British Eventing team selection came as a surprise to three time Olympic medalist, William Fox-Pitt, when he confirmed as chosen (riding Chilli Morning). Fox-Pitt will compete along with Gemma Tattersall (riding Quicklook V or Chico Bella P), Kitty King (riding Ceylor LAN) and Izzy Taylor (riding Allercombe Ellie). Travelling reserve is Pippa Funnell (riding Billy the Biz).
