HAYGAIN sponsor International Blind Dressage rider Verity Smith

HAYGAIN is delighted to welcome International Blind Dressage rider Verity Smith to the team of sponsored riders.

Verity has competed at able bodied Prix St Georges which is the highest level that a blind rider has ever achieved. She is trained by Olympic rider and Grade 1 Listed International Judge Sandy Phillips and Olympic dressage rider Laura Tomlinson.

Verity has recently been campaigning hard to overturn a ruling that ‘blind’ riders must wear a blindfold whilst competing, which inhibits any light they may see and further worsens their disability.

The Kingdom’s Horse campaign, which was initiated by Verity to help disabled riders achieve their dreams, helped buy Verity’s current horse Szekit and they have formed a fantastic partnership.

Verity has seen a huge improvement in ‘Kit’s’ performance since she has been using the HAYGAIN HG-600 to steam his hay. Verity finds the HAYGAIN very easy to use, “even I as a blind person can manage it” and says it reduces the amount of dust that Kit inhales which keeps his airways clear and ready for action.

Kit is fed steamed hay from the ground and Verity has noticed how much it has helped him. She said: “I have noticed a marked improvement in his recovery times and stamina which I strongly feel is related to minimising the dust in his feed and environment.”

Verity also commented on the usefulness of her HAYGAIN in reducing environmental dust in the stable, particularly during the winter when horses are in more and dust builds up. She commented “the Haygain is fab as it eliminates one of the major contributors to dust in this enclosed space, plus it simply makes the yard smell divine!”
