Competition Stallions Showcase – New Event for Best Stallions at Stud in the UK

Competition Stallions have announced a new stallion event, showcasing the very best stallions at stud in the UK today, including Olympic gold medal winner, Big Star making an exclusive UK appearance.

The event will be held on at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre on Sunday 18th February, giving mare owners and the wider public an opportunity to see stallions perform in the arena as well as having access to the stable area. Studbooks and breeding organisations will be represented in the trade stand area.

Organiser, Jane Skepper, has a wealth of experience in breeding and competition horses. A qualified AI technician who runs her family’s Heritage Coast Stud, Jane launched the Competition Stallions Guide in 2012.

“This event fits perfectly with the Stallion Guide, and following widespread interest and support amongst the equestrian community, we are delighted to be able to announce this new date which we hope will become a regular fixture” said Jane

Among the 60 stallions on parade will be high profile sires from Stallions AI, Elite Stallions, Brendon Stud, The Dressage Company and Woodlander Stud. Olympic legends Jaguar Mail and Arko III will be on parade, along with many other stars including Britannia’s Mail, Ramiro B and T Movistar.

Brendon Stud will show some exciting young stallions, including the son of Don VHP Z, along with their seasoned campaigner, Caretino Glory. “It is vital for mare owners to see stallions in the flesh. I am very happy to get behind this event, and to support Jane. She is very professional, and we are happy to support her in this new venture”, said Valerie Light of Brendon Stud. “We will bring two exciting young stallions, including Don VHP Z, and our old boy, Caretino Glory, so we’ll cover the age range. Addington is an excellent venue, offering just the right facilities for a stallion event with good permanent stables, good lighting in the arena and stable area, and it is people friendly with a warm café if it’s cold!”

“Stallion AI Services are proud to be supporting the Competition Stallions show at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre on the 18th February, and we are bringing some of the UK’s top stallions, such as Arko III, Big Star, Ramiro B and Jaguar Mail, who is standing with us on behalf of Elite Stallions”, said Tullis Matson of Stallion AI Services. “In our opinion it is extremely important for mare owners to see potential stallions in the flesh to evaluate their quality and conformation and hence determine whether or not they would complement their mare. Nothing beats the opportunity to meet the stallions in the stable and to see him either ridden or lead up. Some stallions will also have progeny accompanying them, and mare owners are able to talk to stallion owners about each of the stallions, what they pass on and which mares they suit”.

Lucinda Fredericks is a regular supporter of the Competition Stallions Guide and is looking forward to bringing her stallion, Britannia’s Mail, son of her renowned eventing mare, Headley Britannia. “We have included Britannia’s Mail in the stallion guide for several years now so thought it would be nice to go to this event which we haven’t attended previously. The timing is very good as it’s close to our season start so hopefully will encourage people to use him as he will still be fresh in their minds. His father, Jaguar Mail, will also be at the event so it will be lovely to hopefully see them together”. Visitors will not only get a proper feel for the horse and see how it moves, but can also speak to Lucinda and her team and find out more.

Organiser, Jane Skepper, said “We are delighted to have received such a positive response from stallion owners for our first event. Some of the stallions will be shown alongside their progeny, which is always fascinating to watch and will make a great show”.

The event will also feature the Competition Stallions Awards, recognising the top British-based sires of progeny assessed by the BEF Futurity Evaluations in 2017.
