Alan Young, Star of Mr Ed Dies Aged 67

Alan Young, friend to talking horse Mr Ed, died on Thursday 19th May of natural causes, aged 96.

Popular TV series Mr Ed, where Young stared as architect Wilbur Post, aired between 1961 – 1966. His relationship with his Palomino in the american sitcom series lit up the lives of those who did and those who didn’t love horses.

Guest appearances to the series included the formidable Clint Eastwood and basketball star Sandy Koufax. Young reported he was continually asked, after the series ended, how the production team were able to make the horse’s lips move.

His career, which included starring in films, TV series and on radio, spanned some 70 years which saw him starring on the big screen in Tom Thumb (1958), The Time Machine (1960) and co starring next to Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop III (1994). As Young’s career progressed he enjoyed several voice over roles, best known for voice of grumpy Scrooge McDuck in Disney’s TV series Duck Tales.

The actor-comedian was born in North Shields, Northumberland before his Scottish parents emigrated to Canada. He was married three times and had four children.
